Hypnotherapy is a skilled verbal communication, used during hypnosis, which helps direct a clients imagination in such a way as to bring about intended alterations in sensations, perceptions, feelings, thoughts and behaviour. In a typical hypnotherapy session, the hypnotherapist will ask the client questions about previous medical history, general health and lifestyle etc and then they will decide together on the changes, or achievable goals that are desired.
Hypnotherapy can be applied to a wide range of medical, dental and psychological problems. Areas of application include anxiety and stress conditions, weight control, addictive behaviours (including smoking, alcohol and substance misuse) and confidence issues. Hypnotherapy is also used to enhance performance in several areas such as sport and public speaking.

Anyone over the age of 18 years old can choose to see a therapist. If you are under the age of 18, we highly recommend that you speak to your GP as soon as possible in order for you to get the best support for your needs. There is no upper age limit.

Because, we are also located on a quiet street in Albion, we have the privileged position of being able to offer a very discreet and private practice, which some of our more high profile clients appreciate.
When you meet with either one of us for the first time please do tell us about any concerns that you may have and we will reassure you. Unfortunately, the only thing that many people know about hypnosis is what they have seen of so called stage hypnosis, where people may indeed be encouraged to do silly things for the entertainment of an audience. Hypnotherapy is nothing like this at all. We are ethical practitioners and everything that happens during your therapy is completely confidential and beneficial to you.
As I am a National Hypnotherapy Society member, you have the security of knowing that I have been verified by the Society, which means that my qualifications, training and experience has all been rigorously checked. We also have full indemnity insurance, and are governed by the Society’s Code of Ethics. Should you choose another therapist, please do check their credentials to ensure that they are certified by a sound authority.
Hypnosis is simply a relaxed state of focused attention. A hypnotist basically temporarily bypasses your conscious mind, which gives you the power to make behavioral changes at a deeper level than when you attempt to make changes at the conscious level. One way to think about it is that hypnosis increases the communication between your conscious desires (like giving up smoking), and the unconscious mind (where your real power to change exists).
Psychotherapy aims to help you gain a better understanding of the issues that are troubling you. It can help you work out new ways of approaching situations that you find difficult, as well as suggesting new methods to help you cope. Developing a trusting relationship with your psychotherapist is very important, and will help you to talk about long-standing problems. However, developing trust can take time. Depending on the disorder and the style of psychotherapy, some treatment courses may need to last for several months or, in some cases, years.
The state of relaxation that you enter is not the same as sleeping, but some people do fall asleep and this is nothing to worry about, you have after all just fallen asleep. You will be in a secure, safe and comfortable environment. We will explain in detail the methods to be used, to ensure that you are fully aware of the process. Following the session you will be able to go about your day as normal.
Counselling is a type of talking therapy that allows a person to talk about their problems and feelings in a confidential and dependable environment. As trained practitioners, we work with people over a short, or longer term, to help our clients bring about effective change, or enhance their well being.
An individual session will usually take 50 minutes. In some cases a session can take longer, but we will discuss this with you in advance.
This depends upon your individual circumstances and is something that we will discuss with you when you first meet us. We will review as we go on, but depending on the issues you want to address, hypnotherapy can often be a relatively short one and two session process, up to a usual maximum of four sessions.

Found yourself at a crossroads?

The stigma thankfully of seeking help is now eroding away, as are the many myths attached to seeing a therapist. Chief amongst them is the concern that only “crazy” people need therapy, or that accepting help is a sign of weakness – a fear many men inparticular associate wrongly with therapy.
Our treatments are affordable and needent be expensive. Although weekly sessions in counselling are advised, some of our clients may come in to see us on a monthly basis, or even quartely. It all depends on the presenting conditions of our clients and this is the reason why we talior our services specifically to them because eveyone is an individual.
