Free Self-Expression through Painting
Art Therapy is a type of psychotherapy, in which art and creative craft work is used to express emotions and feelings, often in moments where words cannot convey what the client is experiencing within themselves.
There is no need for clients to have any experience or skill with art whatsoever. Art therapy is a means of releasing the impact of emotional events, feelings or distress that cannot be put into words. We at the Here to Help Company feel that it can be utilised effectively for a variety of issues, feelings and emotions. It’s our job to work in accordance with the clientβs needs, therefore different mediums may be used, be it paint, pencil, charcoal, paper, ink or photographs etc.
Release Your Emotions
We feel this model of psychotherapy works best when integrated with counselling sessions so that we as therapist and client are able to explore together what is raised during the session, in order to allow the client to determine and to understand the source of emotions that are expressed, often sub consciously. i.e. anger, guilt, grief, fear, sadness or the impact of a traumatic event.
It is the client that shall make meaning of the work created, not the therapist. As such, the effects of art therapy can be felt differently and uniquely by each individual client. It can allow you an increased self awareness, an opportunity to heal deep-seeded emotional pain, or even reduce stress levels in moments where relaxation is needed.
βArt washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
Picasso
At Here to Help Co we are happy to integrate art therapy courses within your counselling sessions. It can also be utilised as part of group, or couples therapy sessions. Ultimately, the experience of art therapy is one of self discovery and self understanding. It can be informative, often transformative and enjoyable! Through the use of paints and other mediums, the client is able to express the inexpressible and able to do so in a safe, supportive environment, free from judgement.
